Shanti Pereira Triumphs Again in SEA Games 2025: Singapore’s sprint queen extends her gold-winning streak in Bangkok
BANGKOK — The Supachalasai National Stadium continues to be a fortuitous stage for Singapore’s Shanti Pereira, as she secured the women’s 100m title at the SEA Games on December 11 with a commanding performance.
The 29-year-old crossed the line in 11.36 seconds to take gold, ahead of Thailand’s Khanonta Jirapat who clocked 11.54 and Vietnam’s Ha Thi Thu at 11.58.
Pereira previously claimed the 2023 SEA Games 100m gold in 11.41 seconds, beating Thailand’s Supanich Poolkerd (11.58) and Vietnam’s Tran Thi Nhi Yen (11.75).
Her success at this same venue in July 2023 marked a historic milestone when she achieved a sprint double at the Asian Athletics Championships. She also set a national record of 11.20 seconds in the 100m, becoming Singapore’s first gold medalist at the continental event.
Looking ahead, Pereira lines up to defend another title in the women’s 200m on December 13.
Earlier in the day, Singaporean sprinter Marc Louis finished fourth in the men’s 100m with a time of 10.32. Thailand’s Puripol Boonson took gold in 10.00, followed by Indonesia’s Lalu Zohri (10.25) and Malaysia’s Danish Iftikhar Roslee (10.26).
During the heats, Puripol made history by becoming the first Southeast Asian to dip under the 10-second barrier in the century sprint, stopping the clock at 9.94 seconds. With that run, the 19-year-old also shattered the SEA Games record of 10.17 seconds set by Indonesia’s Suryo Agung Wibowo in 2009.
In the 2023 SEA Games held in Cambodia, Marc Louis earned a silver in the 100m with 10.39 seconds, behind Thailand’s Soraoat Dabbang (10.37) and ahead of Malaysia’s Haiqal Hanafi (10.44).
