President Ramaphosa to Visit Flood-Stricken Limpopo Amid Ongoing Heavy Rains
President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to visit the flood-ravaged province of Limpopo on Thursday, as the region continues to endure relentless heavy rains. The floods have caused severe disruption, cutting off communities and damaging critical infrastructure. Schools and health facilities in two of the most affected districts have been temporarily closed, with harsh weather conditions expected to persist until next week.
The President will be briefed by provincial and disaster management authorities as damage assessments are conducted across several areas, including Vhembe and Mopani. The relentless four-day rain has severely impacted daily life, making it challenging for residents to access healthcare, transportation, and essential services.
This visit comes after the provincial government acknowledged its limited resources in the face of the flooding crisis. Despite resource constraints, the government is committed to assisting affected communities. Basikopo Makamu, the Provincial COGTA MEC, assured that the state is prepared to help, even if resources are stretched.
The President's focus during the visit is expected to be on relief, recovery, and coordination, as the province remains on high alert due to the possibility of further rain.
