Gus G. on New FIREWIND Album, Solo Record, and Creative Process (2026)

Gus G. is currently diving into the creative process with not just one, but two exciting projects on the horizon! In a recent chat with Rev. Tom Brice from Sportzwire Radio (you can check it out at https://www.youtube.com/@sportzwireradio6579), the talented Greek guitarist, who has been a part of Ozzy Osbourne's ensemble for more than 15 years, shared some thrilling updates about his band FIREWIND. Their new album, set to release later this year under the Frontiers Label Group's fresh imprint, BLKIIBLK, will be the follow-up to the 2024 LP "Stand United" and will feature the much-anticipated return of singer Henning Basse (known for his work with METALIUM, SONS OF SEASONS, and WITHERING SCORN).

Gus elaborated on this lineup change, stating, "Henning Basse is back in the band. For those who may not know or remember, he has been part of our journey since around 2006 or 2007. He initially helped us wrap up a tour and then officially joined us again in 2016. We created an incredible album together called 'Immortals', but he left by the end of the decade. Now, he's back with us, bringing fresh music and a new concept album to life."

The conversation then shifted to FIREWIND’s transition from AFM Records to BLKIIBLK. Gus explained, "Frontiers launched this new label, BLKIIBLK, to focus on heavier music because their primary roster was more aligned with AOR bands like WINGER and JOURNEY. They recognized that having both metal and softer rock could confuse fans, so they decided to create a dedicated label for harder sounds. It’s an honor for us to be included alongside legendary acts like BIOHAZARD and MEGADETH."

When asked about the significance of releasing new music at this stage in his career, Gus passionately expressed, "It's vital for me. I believe in continuous creativity rather than resting on past achievements. Sure, having a solid catalog is great—20 years of amazing albums is something to celebrate—but I find it equally important to keep producing new work. Currently, I'm working on two albums; I just wrapped up my solo project, which will drop this year, and I’m finalizing the new FIREWIND record. I've composed over 20 new songs, and I feel driven to keep writing. If inspiration strikes and I have something meaningful to share as an artist, I’ll continue releasing music. If I ever feel like I don’t have anything to contribute, then it’s okay to take a step back. But while I’m inspired, I won’t stop creating and sharing my music."

In November, FIREWIND announced a split with vocalist Herbie Langhans, explaining in a statement that they had borrowed him from AVANTASIA for as long as they could, but due to conflicting schedules and growing touring commitments, it became challenging to continue their collaboration. They expressed gratitude for the time spent together and wished him well in future endeavors.

Henning Basse’s connection with FIREWIND dates back to 2007 when he first joined as a touring vocalist during the "Allegiance" tour and later became a prominent voice during the band’s resurgence from 2016 to 2019, leaving a significant mark on the acclaimed album "Immortals".

FIREWIND’s latest offering, "Stand United", showcases nine brand new tracks produced by Dennis Ward (known for his work with MAGNUM and UNISONIC), along with a cover of the classic 1980s pop-rock hit "Talking In Your Sleep" by THE ROMANTICS, reimagined with a heavy metal flair that’s distinctly FIREWIND.

In September 2023, the band also released a concert album and Blu-ray titled "Still Raging" via AFM Records.

For over two decades, FIREWIND has been a defining force in the melodic power metal scene. Their music features anthemic choruses, impressive guitar solos, and powerful vocals, successfully merging traditional heavy metal with contemporary power metal elements. With influences spanning from iconic bands like RAINBOW and JUDAS PRIEST to HELLOWEEN and SYMPHONY X, their sound manages to feel both timeless and electrifying.

Noteworthy releases such as "Allegiance" (2006), "The Premonition" (2008), and "Immortals" (2017) underscore FIREWIND's talent for blending melody with technical prowess. The self-titled album released in 2020 marked a new chapter, introducing Langhans and showcasing a heavier, more aggressive style without losing the band’s characteristic catchy hooks.

At the heart of FIREWIND’s music is Gus G., whose vibrant and lyrical guitar playing has garnered him worldwide acclaim and numerous endorsements. From performing in massive stadiums with Ozzy Osbourne to leading intimate club shows with FIREWIND, Gus G. is celebrated for his precision, tone, and genuine passion for heavy metal, establishing himself as both the core and the mastermind behind FIREWIND's distinctive sound.
