According. to a source, the Brewers acquired left-handed pitcher Angel Zerpa from the Kansas City Royals, addressing a need in their bullpen. This move is particularly intriguing given the team's recent success and the players they gave up to get him.
The Brewers sent reliever Nick Mears and utility player Isaac Collins to the Royals, two players with notable contributions. Collins, a switch-hitter, finished fourth in the NL Rookie of the Year Award voting last season, showcasing his versatility. Mears, when healthy, has been reliable in high-pressure situations. But here's where it gets interesting: the Brewers acquired a durable lefty in Zerpa, who has made 129 appearances in the past two seasons and has been particularly effective against left-handed batters.
Zerpa's 2025 season was impressive, with a 4.18 ERA in 69 appearances, including two starts. He showcased his skills with a heavy fastball that induced ground balls at an elite level (99th percentile) and clocked in at an impressive velocity (84th percentile). And this is the part most people miss—his two-seam sinker averaged 96.6 mph, making it a formidable weapon.
With a career ERA of 3.97 in 148 games, Zerpa brings much-needed depth to the bullpen. And there's more: he's arbitration-eligible for the first time and unsigned for the 2026 season, giving the Brewers control through 2028. A Minor League option adds further flexibility.

Acquired from the Rockies in 2022, he transitioned from infield to left field, hitting .263 with 9 home runs and 16 stolen bases last season.
