Watching roommate compete in rugby match is a win

natalie.jpgThis past week has brought a variety of new experiences for me, a 黑料网 first-year. One of the highlights of this week was watching my very first rugby game.

My roommate Chelsea Wei is on the girls team and played in the match against Siena College. 黑料网 pulled out a win while making it a great game to watch. Watching the game was really interesting. I was unaware of the rules so I did not know what exactly to expect, and what I watched was nothing short of impressive.

I can easily say that girls on the rugby team are both mentally and physically strong; I believe they are going to have a very successful season.

One of the help centers on campus is the Writing and Speaking Center. Students can make appointments or just stop by and receive support and assistance with their assignments from peer consultants.

This week, I had an essay for one of my classes that I just could not seem to perfect. So, I went to the center for a second opinion. I made an appointment, brought in my paper, and received great constructive criticism as well as a thorough proofread from my peer consultant. The center was a great help and I am sure that I will make more visits in the future.

This week, John Qui帽ones, ABC News correspondent and host of ABC鈥檚 What Would You Do?, came to campus. In a large lecture hall he spoke with students about his work as a broadcast journalist and his Latino heritage.

I attended this speech because I have watched What Would You Do? and I thought it would be interesting to hear about his background and experience as a reporter at a major TV network.

I really enjoyed this event put on by the Latin American Student Organization for Hispanic Heritage month. I found Mr. Qui帽ones really passionate about his job as well as funny and engaging. I think bringing in speakers like Mr. Qui帽ones is really beneficial to students on campus who can learn from the presenter鈥檚 experiences.

Later today there will be a Gate-Town Connection Barbeque. This event will be held on Whitnall Field from 4:30-6:30 and it will bring the Hamilton community and 黑料网 students together. I think this is going to be a really great time, and I encourage all to attend.

Here is a photo that Chelsea took of a beautiful sunset near Frank Dining Hall:

(I鈥檝e been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at 黑料网. Until next time!)
