— Joey Mormina scored two goals and Kyle Doyle added three assists but it was not enough as the Northeastern men’s hockey team defeated ºÚÁÏÍø 6-4 Sunday afternoon in the first game of the HSBC Rensselaer Holiday Tournament at Houston Field House.

Northeastern (?xml:namespace prefix = st1 ns = 'urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags' />3-9-2) got on the board at 1:37 of the first period when Aaron Moore banged home a rebound in front of the net. Ray Ortiz and Yale Lewis assisted on the goal.
ºÚÁÏÍø (7-7-2) tied the game at one just three minutes later with Mormina’s first goal of the season. Doyle assisted on the goal.
The Huskies took a 2-1 lead at 7:14 on a power play goal by Ortiz. Steve Birnstill sent a centering pass to Ortiz who then one-timed it past ºÚÁÏÍø goaltender David Cann.
The Raiders knotted the game at two at 15:05 with ºÚÁÏÍø on the power play. Doyle sent a pass to Rob Brown from the point who then sent across the ice to Kyle Wilson. Northeastern goaltender Keni Gibson came out of the net and Wilson wristed a shot into the open goal.
ºÚÁÏÍø took the lead 42 seconds later on Justin Spencer’s second goal of the season. Dave Thomas won the faceoff and sent it back to Spencer who then lofted a wrist shot over the shoulder of Gibson.
Northeastern tied it at three at 2:06 of the second period with Mike Morris’ second goal of the year. Tim Judy, who was at the point, sent a pass across the crease to Jason Guerriero. Guerriero then sent it to Morris for the goal.
Mormina’s second goal of the game at 9:25 gave the Raiders a 4-3 lead. Wilson passed it to Mormina whose shot from the point went top shelf. Brown also assisted on the goal.
The Huskies tied the game at four at 12:49 when Steve Sanders one-timed it in front of the net. Guerriero and Morris assisted on the goal.
Northeastern then took the lead less than a minute later on Ortiz’s second goal of the game. Cann went down and Ortiz flipped a backhander over his shoulder.
The Huskies struck again at 10:28 of the third period to take a 6-4 lead on Guerriero’s first goal of the game.
Cann finished the night with 26 saves while Gibson stopped 14.
The Raiders meet the loser of the Rensselaer/Mercyhurst game on Monday at 4 p.m. at Houston Field House.
