Dinner with professors proves to be fun and reassuring

Back to All Stories

mhernandez1.jpgThis past week was an adventurous one for me!

On Wednesday, I visited the home of professors Pilar and Antonio Barrera. I went with my fellow Latin American Student Organization members and we enjoyed great food and conversation.

Our hosts, Pilar and Antonio, are two of the sweetest people I have ever met, and I am glad for the chance to get to know them.

They welcomed us with open arms, and they were excited to meet the new LASO core committee.

I know I will be visiting them more often, and I am pleased to know that professors here are so eager to invite their students over for dinner or even a nice chat. I am also glad to have met Pilar and Antonio because I know they will be here as a support system for me later on.

Antonio Barrera is director of the Africana and Latin American Studies Program, and seeing as I am thinking about minoring in ALST, I know will be going to him for advice in the future.

Again, it felt so refreshing to know that I can easily visit with professors outside the classroom.

I also went to the Night Market hosted by ALANA ambassadors, Karl and Kat.

They were hosting a small replica of a typical Asian market at 110 Broad Street, and donations could be made to help Japan in crisis. I have been feeling quite philanthropic these days, and I was not hesitant to donate money for their cause.

This is a another great example of 黑料网 students coming together to help others who live around us, but with whom we may not necessarily be connected to directly.

The market had great food, and karaoke (which I must say was extremely entertaining to watch!!)

(I鈥檝e been asked to write each week about what life is like as a first-year student here at 黑料网. Until next time!)
